Joe Conroy's Washington Nationals Fan Profile

Who am I?

As a sports writer for the Potomac News in Woodbridge, Va., I have covered both major and minor league baseball as well as Division I men's college basketball.

Having seen the Washington Nationals and (High-A) Potomac up close, I've gotten a look at what the organization has at the highest level as well as one of the developmental tiers.

I'm a big baseball fan even away from work and love the Yankees, but living near and covering the Nats has meant I have begun harboring a rooting interest in the franchise (just a small one, anyway).

I've also covered the George Mason University men's basketball team, following them all of last year and through the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament.

I'd like to start out with a little of who I am. My name is Joe Conroy and I'm a reporter with the News & Messenger (formerly the Potomac News) in Woodbridge, Va. I've covered both the major league club (with reporting partner Dave Utnik) as well as the High-A Potomac Nationals (Carolina League champs in 2008) just a short trip from my office.

So why the name Nationals Outsider? Because I'm going to give you the outsider's perspective. I'm going to let you know that, yes, there are others out there that are thinking just what you are: why are the Nats so bad and how do they get better? I'll let you know what's going on at the big league level as well as how some of the organziation's top prospects are doing in Advanced A-ball.
